NEW TOOL HELPS POTENTIAL TRAVIS COUNTY PROPERTY OWNERS NAVIGATE PROPERTY TAX SYSTEM
AUSTIN, Texas—The Travis Central Appraisal District is now offering potential Travis County property owners a new tool to help them avoid financial strain by being able to plan for and understand a property’s liability in the property tax system.
The new property tax transparency worksheet can be downloaded from a property’s profile on the Travis CAD property search and contains information including the taxing entities the property is associated with, whether the property is considered under construction or incomplete, current exemptions on the property, the property’s most recent tax bill total, the property tax bill if exemptions were not on the property, and exemption and protest deadlines.
According to Travis Central Appraisal District Chief Appraiser Leana Mann, “Many property owners are often shocked to see significant jumps in their property tax bill during their first year of ownership. Our transparency worksheet aims to help property owners avoid surprises and understand why those increases happen.”
New property owners can see significant increases in their property tax bills during their first year of ownership due to increases in taxing entity budgets, the removal of the previous owner’s homestead exemptions, and new improvements added to or completed on a property. By outlining the factors that impact a property’s tax liability, the property tax transparency worksheet allows a potential new owner to anticipate how these changes will impact future property tax bills.
Added Mann, “Our new property tax transparency worksheet will empower potential Travis County property owners with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions and understand the property tax system.”
