MANUFACTURED HOUSING
The Travis Central Appraisal District receives ownership information for mobile homes from the Manufactured Housing Division of the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs(TDHCA). Property owners who wish to register or update the title of their mobile home should submit an application for Statement of Ownership to TDHCA. Before submitting an application, owners should make sure that any tax liens recorded with TDHCA have been paid in full and released by the local tax office. Statement of Ownership applications should include:
- A completed application
- $55 issuance fee
- If the home was moved, a Texas Department of Motor Vehicles moving permit
- If the home was sold within the previous 18 months, a Statement from the Tax Assessor Collector or tax certificate showing that no property taxes are due that may have accrued within the 18 months before the sale date
- A signed release of lien from your lien holder, if applicable
- Additional supporting documents specified by the application
- Additional fees if the application is filed later than sixty days after the date of sale or if expedited processing is requested
Moving permits should be obtained from the party that transported the home.
Statements from the Tax Assessor Collector and tax certificates may be obtained from the local tax office. In Travis County, there is a $10 fee for certificates. The Travis County Tax Office issues certificates within 3 to 5 business days.
Once a Statement of Ownership has been issued, the information can be emailed to the Travis Central Appraisal District at [email protected] to expedite processing. Updated records must be received by April 1 to impact the tax year.
Property owners are taxed based on their property’s status as of January 1 of the year. If you move your mobile home to another location after January 1, it will still be taxed based on its location on January 1.

A homestead exemption lowers your property taxes by removing part of the value of your property from taxation. There are several different types of homestead exemption, including the general residence homestead exemption and exemptions for seniors, people and veterans with disabilities, and some surviving spouses.
You do not have to reapply for a homestead exemption unless the Chief Appraiser requests a new application in writing, you move to a new residence, or your qualifications for an exemption change.
State law requires an appraisal district to audit our exemption records every five years. If the District needs more information to confirm your benefits should continue, you may be asked to reapply.
To qualify for a homestead exemption, you must own and occupy the property on which you are applying. If you recently purchased a home, you may submit the form now and the homestead will be applied to the year in which you qualify.
