Homestead Exemption Increase on November Ballot

This November, Texas voters will have the opportunity to vote on Texas Proposition 4, the Property Tax Changes and State Education Funding Amendment.

This proposition amends the state constitution to increase the homestead exemption for school districts from $40,000 to $100,000. It also limits market value increases on non-homesteaded real property and creates three elected positions to an appraisal district’s board of directors if the county has a population of 75,000 or more.

Travis County property owners can view an estimate of their 2023 property tax bills by visiting travistaxes.com. The estimates on this website assume the exemption amount will increase to $100,000. If that change is not approved by voters, the exemption amount will revert to $40,000.
