The Appraisal District’s primary responsibility is to develop an annual appraisal roll for use by taxing units in imposing ad valorem taxes on property in the district. TCAD is governed by the Board of Directors, who is primarily responsible for the hiring of the Chief Appraiser as well as approving the annual budget.

The regular working hours for the district are 7:45 a. m. to 4:45 p. m. Monday through Friday. Some divisions offer a flexible work schedule based on division needs and at the discretion of the supervisor.
Group Insurance Coverage
Employee group insurance is effective the 1st of the month following 60-days of employment.
The TCAD provides a choice of health plans, a point-of-service POS/PPO plan and a health maintenance organization HMO plan.
The TCAD offers a traditional dental plan with higher reimbursement when using network providers.
The TCAD offers a vision plan that the employee may purchase for themselves or their dependents through payroll deductions.
Life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) Insurance
TCAD provides Life Insurance and AD&D Coverage equal to the employee’s annual salary rounded to the nearest thousand. The employee may purchase additional Life & AD&D Coverage through payroll deductions.
Dependent Insurance Coverage
Employees may purchase dependent coverage for medical, dental and life insurance through payroll deductions. Dependent coverage is not subsidized by the district.
The District provides coverage for work-related injuries through the Texas Association of School Boards.
Federal Insurance Contributions Act (FICA) Tax Participation
TCAD employees hired after March 31, 1986 participate in the Medicare section of the FICA Tax; the district matches the employee contribution as required by federal law. The district does not participate in the Old-Age Survivors and Disability Insurance (Social Security).
TCAD retirement plan is provided by participation in the Texas County and District Retirement System. Employees are fully vested in the program after ten (10) years of service. Employee contributions are compulsory and are taken before Federal taxes are calculated. Employees contribute 7% of all earnings to the plan. Employee contributions are matched by the TCAD at a rate approved annually.
Deferred Compensation Program
Voluntary participation in a deferred compensation program is offered to all employees of the district.
Employees are paid bi-weekly, every other Friday. The TCAD pay period begins Friday at 12:00 p.m. and ends two weeks later Friday at 11:59 a.m.
Direct Deposit/Payroll Deductions
The TCAD payroll system has the capability to provide direct deposit to all banking institutions, but does not require direct deposit.
Employees of the District are entitled to eleven (11) paid holidays per year and two (2) personal holidays.
Vacation is accrued per pay period based on years of service.
Sick leave is accrued each pay period.
TCAD employees are eligible to join and have payroll deductions deposited to Velocity Credit Union and Travis County Employees Credit Union.
